CONGRIPS Business Meeting at 2016 APSA Annual Conference

Skyline_of_PhiladelphiaThe 2016 Business Meeting of CONGRIPS will take place on Friday 2 September at 18:30-19:30 (Marriott, Room 413). All CONGRIPS members and affiliates are welcome to attend.

The Agenda of the business meeting includes the following headings:

– Budget (and Membership) updates

– Changes to ExCom and other offices

– Website / social media

– 2017 Annual Meeting call for proposals

– Collaboration with PSA and other learned associations

GPThe Congrips Life Achievement award came to me, Visiting Professor at Chicago, as a totally unexpected, therefore, even more pleasant and exciting, surprise.

Thank you, dear Colleagues and Friends. I am very grateful.

I do not have to convince you that the study of Italian politics and society can be intellectually stimulating and highly rewarding, though , as citizen of a country that some of you wrongly believe is “normal”, I often feel irritated and annoyed. But I fight back, as you all know, challenging some interpretations, speaking the truth to the powerful as well as to the powerless, attempting, not so naively, to empower the latter, and, of course, also criticizing what many of you have been writing! Hopefully, I have always done so in a scholarly way, engaging in productive conversations, but never ostentatiously showing any kind of detachment. Conference Group on Italian Politics and Society

CONGRIPS is the Conference Group on Italian Politics and Society. CONGRIPS was formally initiated on September 2, 1975, at the American Political Science Association (APSA) convention in San Francisco, California. Norman Kogan of the University of Connecticut spearheaded the effort which, in the first year, garnered 117 members. The original purpose of the organization was to encourage and support academic research and writing on current and past Italian political issues and practices. That charter was expanded in 1986 to include Italian social issues, hence the name change that year to the Conference on Italian Politics & Society ( CONGRIPS ). During its first year, CONGRIP also adopted a Constitution and Bylaws .

2016 APSA Annual Meeting

The 2016 APSA Annual Meeting will take place in Philadelphia, on 1-4 September. Deadline for submitting proposals is 8 January 2016. The Conference Group on Italian Politics and Society invites proposals for papers, panels and round tables on topics related to the APSA 2016 Theme Statement: “Great Transformations: Political Science and the Big Questions of Our Time”.

CONGRIPS at 2015 APSA Annual Meeting in San Francisco

SanFranc At the executive meeting in San Francisco various positions were renewed in the CONGRIPS Executive. Dr. Laura Polverari (University of Strathclyde) replaces Professor Amie Kreppel (University of Florida) as CONGRIPS President. Professor Martin Bull (University of Salford) takes on the role of program chair 2016-2017. Professor Paolo Graziano, University of Padua, is the new Vice-President for the next two years and will thus also be President in 2018. Professor Christophe Roux (Université de Nice) and Dr. Giulia Sandri (Université Catholique de Lille) become new members of the Executive. In addition to these positions, Dr. Daniele Albertazzi (University of Birmingham and Convenor of the PSA’s Italian Politics Specialist Group) will serve as Liaison Officer with PSA-Italian Studies, and Dr. Antonella Seddone (Université Catholoque de Lille) and Dr. Stefano Rombi (University of Cagliari) become the web editors for the new CONGRIPS website. All other positions both within and outwith the Executive remain as before the 2015 Business meeting, except for Maurizio Carbone whose five-year term in the Executive has expired and to whom goes the Executive most sincere thanks.
