Organized in partnership with the Center for Maghreb Studies in Tunis (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cematmaghrib.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEMAT<\/a>) and the Project on Middle East Political Science (<a href=\"https:\/\/pomeps.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">POMEPS<\/a>), the conference\u00a0provided a unique opportunity to share and receive critical feedback on research manuscripts, network with colleagues from across the MENA region, and contribute to a range of forthcoming publications.<\/p>\n<p>Attending authors included 32 PhD students and early-career scholars from across the MENA region, Europe, and North America, including 17 MENA Workshops alumni.\u00a0In addition, 20 leading faculty\u00a0in the field of MENA Political Science attended the conference as discussants. The three-day program (see <a href=\"http:\/\/web.apsanet.org\/mena\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/Tunis-Conference-schedule-7.24.17.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">schedule.pdf<\/a>) included\u00a0working group sessions, plenary sessions, roundtables, and skill sharing discussions. Each morning, attendees broke out into assigned working groups on a variety of themes, including: &#8220;Mobilization and Decision Making,&#8221; &#8220;Discourse and Diffusion among Social Movements,&#8221; &#8220;Authoritarian Control and Legitimation,&#8221; &#8220;Elite Resilience and State Networks,&#8221; and &#8220;Identity and Integration.&#8221; The simultaneous working group sessions allowed for intense and dedicated discussion of each paper, which were shared with attendees in advance of the conference.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/web.apsanet.org\/mena\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/group-photo.x.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-138 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/web.apsanet.org\/mena\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/group-photo.x.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"731\" srcset=\"http:\/\/web.apsanet.org\/mena\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/group-photo.x.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/web.apsanet.org\/mena\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/group-photo.x-300x214.jpg 300w, http:\/\/web.apsanet.org\/mena\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/group-photo.x-768x548.jpg 768w, http:\/\/web.apsanet.org\/mena\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2017\/02\/group-photo.x-260x186.jpg 260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><em>Attendees at the July 2017 MENA Political Science Research and Publication Conference<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Following the conference, attendees are encouraged to revise their research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed international journals. Attendees may\u00a0also be invited to contribute\u00a0their\u00a0research to potential\u00a0journal special issues in collaboration with other scholars.
